An award-winning freelance journalist, Judith Messina served as a senior reporter for Crain’s New York Business from 1994 to 2006, covering technology, finance, and healthcare. Her work has appeared in numerous publications, including Modern Health Care, Business Insurance, Workforce, Investment News, Advertising Age, and the Health Monitor Network magazines, as well as on NBC.com, CNBC.com, and RIABiz.com. She has won several awards for her reporting on Silicon Alley, including the Gold Award for Best Feature from Crain’s New York Business in 2000 and First Place for Editorial Excellence from Crain Communications in 1998. She previously served as vice president of operations at Citibank. She is a trustee of JCCA, formerly known as the Jewish Child Care Association, and she is a visiting fellow at the Center for an Urban Future. From 2012 to 2018, she served on the board of visitors of the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. In 2004, she joined the Hood College Board of Trustees, serving as chair from 2017 to 2023. She received her B.A. from Hood College, her M.B.A. from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, and her M.S. from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.

From 2010 to 2018, Mr. Jeffery served as president and CEO and member of the board of Rockefeller & Co. and Rockefeller Financial Services, Inc. On April 16, 2007, he was nominated by President George Bush to serve as under secretary for economic, energy and agricultural affairs, and he also served as the State Department’s coordinator for international energy affairs. Prior to this appointment, he was chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission; special assistant to the president and senior director for international economic affairs at the National Security Council; and the representative and executive director of the Coalition Provisional Authority Office at the Pentagon, after having served as an advisor to Ambassador Paul Bremer in Iraq. He spent 18 years working for Goldman Sachs, where he was managing partner of Goldman Sachs in Paris and the firm’s European Financial Institutions Group in London. Mr. Jeffery received his B.A. from Yale University in 1957 and his J.D. and M.B.A. from Stanford University in 1981.

Karrin Taylor Robson is a long-time Arizona business leader and land-use expert. She is founder and president of Arizona Strategies, a premier land use strategy firm headquartered in Phoenix.

Ms. Taylor Robson has worked with national organizations representing major landowners and stakeholders across the country to advance balanced federal environmental law and policy on endangered species acts and wetlands issues. In addition, she has advanced multiple public-private partnerships, leveraging private sector capital to deliver public infrastructure and other public benefits.

Ms. Taylor Robson has served on the boards of numerous government, community, and economic development organizations. In June 2017, she was appointed by Governor Doug Ducey to the Arizona Board of Regents which is responsible for the governance of the state’s three public universities, Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, and the University of Arizona. During her tenure, she created the Regents’ Cup, an annual debate competition between the three universities. The event fosters vibrant democratic engagement that teaches students how to communicate respectfully with each other and exchange thought-provoking ideas in the spirit of free inquiry.

She served as the chair of the Joe Foss Institute, the vice chair of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council, and as a board member of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and invisionAZ. In addition, she serves as a member of the Civic Leaders Group for the Chief of Staff of the United States Air Force.

Prior to forming Arizona Strategies, Ms. Taylor Robson served as executive vice president of DMB Associates, Inc., a Scottsdale based master-planned community developer. Earlier in her career, she was a principal with the law firm of Biskind, Hunt & Taylor, P.L.C., where she practiced in the areas of land use, development, and zoning law representing large landowners on significant and complex land use cases.

Through her numerous professional, community, and philanthropic commitments, Ms. Taylor Robson advocates daily for building and sustaining a dynamic and diverse economy, protecting property rights and creating value in real estate, and supporting the men and women who serve in our military.

Ms. Taylor Robson is the wife of Ed Robson and the proud mother of four.

Judge Janice Rogers Brown earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from California State University–Sacramento in 1974, her J.D. from the University of California–Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Law in 1977, and a Master of Laws in Judicial Process from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2004.

In 1996, she became an associate justice of the California Supreme Court, where she served until 2005. Earlier in her career, Judge Brown held positions providing legal counsel to senior leadership of several California government agencies, including as the legal affairs secretary to California Governor Pete Wilson from 1991–1994.

On June 8, 2005, Janice Rogers Brown was confirmed to the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, where she served until her retirement in 2017.  

Judge Brown has been awarded honorary doctorate degrees from Pepperdine University and Southwestern School of Law. She has served with distinction on Pepperdine University’s Board of Regents. Honors and awards include the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Georgetown University Chapter of the Federalist Society, the Jurisprudence Award from the Claremont Institute’s Center for Constitutional Jurisprudence, the 2019 Bradley Prize from The Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation, and the Pacific Research Institute’s Baroness Thatcher award.

Mark Ridenour graduated from Miami University in 1982 with a bachelor’s degree in finance. He began his career at National City Bank in Cleveland, Ohio, and later joined Heidtman Steel Company, where he served as executive vice president and chief financial officer from 1985 to 2016. In 2015, he was named president of DALE Management Company, an asset management company based in Sylvania, Ohio.

Mr. Ridenour has remained deeply involved with his alma mater, serving until recently as the chairman of the Miami University Board of Trustees. Previously, he held office as vice chair, treasurer, and committee chair. He also volunteers with Miami University’s Community Outreach and Recruiting Programs.

With a passion for service, Mr. Ridenour has served on the boards of many nonprofit organizations, including several independent high schools, Lourdes University, the Toledo Zoological Society, and Mercy Health Partners. He is the president of the Susan G. Komen Foundation’s Northwest Ohio Affiliate.

Stuart Taylor, Jr., earned his degree from Princeton University in 1970, majoring in history and began a career in journalism, working as a reporter for the Baltimore Sun from 1971 to 1974. He left journalism to attend Harvard Law School, graduating magna cum laude in 1977.

In 1977, Mr. Taylor joined the law firm of Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering in Washington, DC.  He returned to journalism in 1980 as a reporter covering legal affairs for the Washington Bureau of the New York Times. One of the nation’s leading legal journalists, he has addressed a wide range of issues over his career, including Supreme Court cases, due process and voting rights, civil liberties, education, and political polarization.

From 1989 to 2010, he wrote commentaries for the Legal Times, National Journal, Newsweek, and other leading publications. His op-eds and longer features have been published in The Atlantic, Time, Slate, and other magazines, as well as major newspapers, including the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, the Los Angeles Times, and USA Today.

In partnership with KC Johnson, a recipient of ACTA’s Philip Merrill Award for Outstanding Contributions to Liberal Arts Education, and University of California–Los Angeles professor Richard Sander, Mr. Taylor has coauthored three books of greatest significance for higher education: Until Proven Innocent: Political Correctness and the Shameful Injustices of the Duke Lacrosse Rape Case, Mismatch: How Affirmative Action Hurts Students It’s Intended to Help, and Why Universities Won’t Admit It, and The Campus Rape Frenzy: The Attack on Due Process at America’s Universities.

His writing has earned him many honors, including a 2002 National Headliner Award for best special magazine column on one subject. He was a National Magazine Award finalist in both 1993 and 1997, and he was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in 1988.

Upon graduation from the New York University School of Law in 1964, Edwin Williamson began work at the firm of Sullivan & Cromwell LLP in 1964, becoming a partner in 1971 and Senior Counsel in 2006. He is an expert in public international law and national security issues, serving as the Legal Adviser of the U.S. Department of State from 1990–1993. In this capacity, he helped form the legal positions of the United States in the 1990–1991 Persian Gulf conflict; after the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the related issues of state succession; after the dissolution of Yugoslavia; and during the attempt to end the Serbian-Bosnian conflict.

In addition to his public policy work, Mr. Williamson has been an active participant on panels and other forums concerning public international law and national security issues. He is a member of the Council of Foreign Relations and the American Law Institute, and has served on the Executive Council of the American Society of International Law.

Mr. Williamson has extensive experience serving on both corporate and philanthropic boards, including as vice chairman and a member of the Executive Board of the Business and Industry Advisory Committee (BIAC) to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and of the Executive Committee of the U.S. Council for International Business (USCIB). He is a former chairman of the board of regents and a former trustee of the University of the South.

In addition to his J.D., Mr. Williamson received a B.A. from the University of the South in 1961 and a Doctor of Civil Law from the University of the South in 1992.

Stephen Joel Trachtenberg served as the 15th president of The George Washington University (GW) for nearly two decades, from 1988 to 2007. Prior to his service at GW, he was president of the University of Hartford for 11 years. Before assuming the presidency of Hartford, Dr. Trachtenberg served for eight years at Boston University as vice president for academic services and academic dean of the College of Liberal Arts. Earlier, in Washington, DC, he was a special assistant for two years to the U.S. Education Commissioner, an attorney with the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission, and a legislative aide to former Indiana Congressman John Brademas.

Dr. Trachtenberg is a past chairman of the District of Columbia Chamber of Commerce and the Atlantic 10 Conference Presidents Council, and continues to be a member of both. He chaired the Southeastern Universities Research Association (SURA) and serves on the boards of the Greater Washington Board of Trade and the DC Federal City Council. He has served on the Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Executive Panel and on the board of the International Association of University Presidents. He has also served as president of the American Association of University Administrators, and, in 1988, he was elected to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Presidents Commission. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Board of Directors of the Chiang Chen Industrial Charity Foundation in Hong Kong, and a trustee of Al-Akhawayn University in Morocco.

Additionally, Dr. Trachtenberg was appointed by the mayor to serve on the District of Columbia Tax Revision Commission, as well as the District of Columbia Committee to Promote Washington. He has served on the board of the Urban League of Greater Washington and chaired the Rhodes Scholarships Selection Committee for Maryland and the District of Columbia.

Dr. Trachtenberg has been recognized both nationally and internationally for his extensive public service. By Resolution of the Council of the District of Columbia, January 22, 1998 was declared “Stephen Joel Trachtenberg Day” in honor of his commitments to minority students, scholarship programs, public school partnerships, and community service. He has received many awards and honorary degrees, including the U.S. Department of State Secretary’s Open Forum Distinguished Public Service Award in 1997 and the U.S. Treasury Department’s Medal of Merit in 2002.

Dr. Trachtenberg has published a number of books on higher education, including Big Man on Campus: A University President Speaks Out on Higher EducationWrite me a Letter!: The Wit and Wisdom of Stephen Joel Trachtenberg; and Thinking Out Loud: A Decade of Thoughts on Higher Education. He is co-editor of The Art of Hiring in America’s Colleges & Universities and, most recently, Leading Colleges and Universities: Lessons from Higher Education Leaders.

Dr. Trachtenberg earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia University in 1959, a Juris Doctor from Yale University in 1962, and a Master of Public Administration degree from Harvard University in 1966.

Dr. Poliakoff became part of the ACTA team in March 2010 as the vice president of policy, and became ACTA’s third president on July 1, 2016. He previously served as vice president for academic affairs and research at the University of Colorado and in senior roles at the National Endowment for the Humanities, the National Council on Teacher Quality, the American Academy for Liberal Education, and the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

He has taught at Georgetown University, George Washington University, Hillsdale College, the University of Illinois at Chicago, and Wellesley College. He received his B.A. magna cum laude from Yale University and went on to study at Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar, and the University of Michigan, where he earned a Ph.D. in classical studies. He has been a junior fellow at the Center for Hellenic Studies, and his research has been supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst, and the Alexander Von Humboldt Stiftung. He is the author of numerous books and journal articles in classical studies and education policy and has received the American Philological Association’s Excellence in Teaching Award and the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Distinguished Service to Education Award.

Paul Levy is a former trustee of the University of Pennsylvania and former overseer of Penn Law School, who publicly resigned in April 2018 in protest of the University’s treatment of law professor Amy Wax. His resignation letter provided a spirited defense of academic freedom and intellectual diversity, and garnered regional and national media attention from the Wall Street Journal and the Philadelphia Inquirer.

A private equity expert and former lawyer, Mr. Levy founded the New York-based investment firm JLL Partners in 1988 and now serves on the management committee. Previously, he was a managing director at Drexel Burnham Lambert, where he oversaw the firm’s restructuring and exchange offer business in New York. He has served as the CEO of Yves Saint Laurent, Inc., New York; vice president of administration and general counsel of Quality Care, Inc.; and an attorney with Stroock & Stroock & Lavan LLP.

Mr. Levy is a noted philanthropist who, along with his wife Karen, established the Levy Scholars Program and funded the construction of the Levy Conference Center, among other gifts, at Penn Law. At Lehigh University, Mr. Levy created and funded the Levy International Scholars Program to introduce outstanding high school graduates to the Lehigh community. He has supported organizations that span the arts, education, healthcare, Jewish Studies, and social services: Mr. Levy has served as the director of BioClinica, Inc.; as a trustee of the National Constitution Center; and as the chair of the George Jackson Academy Board of Trustees. His wife serves on the board of Rockefeller University and The Juilliard School.

He received his B.A. from Lehigh University, where he graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. He earned his J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, and a certificate from the Sorbonne Institute of Political Science in France.
